Verify a Florida license — free, in 2 minutes

Florida requires state licenses for most home-services work. Every FloridaFixPros listing prints the license number — here's how to check it against the official state database before you hire anyone, from anywhere.

Step by step (official DBPR search)

  1. Go to the official Florida DBPR license search at myfloridalicense.com (Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation).
  2. Enter the company name or the license number exactly as shown on the listing or quote.
  3. Check three things: the license status says Current / Active, the name matches the company you're hiring, and the license type matches the trade (see prefixes below).
  4. For extra safety, ask the company for a Certificate of Insurance (general liability + workers' comp) and check it hasn't expired.

Registered (county-level) licenses start with R (e.g. RC, RX) and are valid only in their jurisdiction. Weekly pool cleaning and handyman-style minor repairs may not need a state license — but the moment work touches equipment, structure, gas, or electrical, a license is required.

Red flags of unlicensed work

  • No license number on the truck, quote, or website — or "I'll pull the permit in your name."
  • Demands a large cash deposit before any work (Florida law caps deposits on many residential jobs).
  • Shows up right after a hurricane from out of state, with no Florida address.
  • Price that's half of everyone else's, "today only."

Hiring an unlicensed contractor can void your homeowners insurance, leave you liable for their injuries on your property, and make storm-damage claims a nightmare. Two minutes of checking beats all of it.

Found a company on FloridaFixPros without a license number? That means it's an unclaimed public listing — the company hasn't verified with us yet. Treat it like any other listing: verify before you hire.
